Dilma answers Voters’ requests
After personally viewing the video and contents of the anti-homophobia kit that would be distributed to public schools throughout the country by the Ministry of Education (MEC), President Rousseff decided on Wednesday, May 25th, to suspend its distribution. The decision was announced by Presidential secretary, Minister Gilberto Carvalho, after the House of Representatives held an assembly with the PRB (Brazilian Republican Party) and the Evangelical bench. The Secretary said that President Dilma had seen the videos and was unhappy with some of the content. "She didn’t like what she saw. She thought it was unsuitable and found the material to be inappropriate. Therefore, the production of these materials has been suspended,” said Carvalho.
Marcos Pereira, national president of the PRB, attended several meetings at the Presidential Palace in order to bring the movement against the distribution of the “kit” to their attention, which involved different sectors of society. According to him, the president's decision to suspend the distribution of the MEC project came immediately after seeing its contents, which she hadn’t known about until then. She gained knowledge of the matter through a news report on Record TV.
I want to be clear that, the Evangelical bench and the government are completely against any kind of homophobia. The minister said: "The production of this material and anything related to this matter is suspended”.
Even before the project was launched by MEC, the Evangelical bench was already hard at work in the House of Representatives to have it suspended.

Brazilian families are thankful
In February 2011, we visited the Secretariat for Social Communication of the Presidency and warned them about the material that the Ministry of Education was preparing. This material leaned more towards encouraging homosexuality and the precocious sexual conduct of young children and adolescents in our public schools, than material aimed at combating homophobia.
Last week (on 05/16/2011), I was told that this material had been approved and was awaiting distribution, so the PRB bench (Brazilian Republican Party) in the House of Representatives, along with the Evangelical bench, took a strong stance against this situation. With this, the Minister of Education was convened in order to provide clarification – which, by the way wasn’t very clear - on what their position was.
This week (05/24/2011), Mr. Paulo Vitor PRB / RJ, PRB House leader, and I visited various ministries at the Presidential Palace to convey our position on the matter in a clear and concise manner. That same day, we also expressed our position to the Vice President.
The day after these brief meetings and assemblies took place, on Wednesday 05/25/2011, Rousseff, the President of the Republic, made an announcement through the Presidential secretary, that she suspended the distribution of the material.
In the end, the Brazilian people united forces and won this pro-family battle.
