We will, we will rock you

"Let no one cheat you of your reward... These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion... but are of no value..." Ephesians 2:18,23

risenKnowledge is power, they say. And I say, "Ignorance is powerlessness." Those who control empowering information, control the world. People don't usually realize that knowledge is an asset, a source of power and wealth. And yet, every day they pay large sums of money just to acquire the information, advice or knowledge that someone else possesses.
Why do we pay money to lawyers, schools, accountants, estate agents and other people who don't sell us any tangible goods? Yes, because they possess knowledge or information we need but don't have. And their knowledge serves them so well that they make a living out of it.
So we could say: "Those who know, earn. Those who don't, pay." This is true in most areas of our lives, and it's all the more true in our faith.
The Bible says that the devil, the god of this world, has blinded the minds of people (2 Cor 4:4) so they cannot believe. He, more than anyone else, knows that knowledge of the truth has the power to set people free. He thrives on people's ignorance. Satan has used religion to blind people's understanding and lead them away from God's liberating truths.
One of the greatest tricks he has ever pulled was to turn the Lord's death on the cross into a mere set of traditions. Starting by the name he gave it (the name "Easter" has pagan origins) all the way to associating it with egg hunts and chocolates, the devil has managed to reduce the most powerful event in history to a simple, godless, meaningless long holiday weekend.
The Holy Spirit said, "Let no one cheat you of your reward..." The death of the Lord Jesus secured unlimited rights for you. The apostle Peter said that His divine power has given us everything we need for life! (2 Pet 1:3) Do you get it? Read that again!
Maybe you're saying in your mind as you read this, "Yeah, yeah, I know all about it." But may I suggest that perhaps you don't. You think you do, but you actually don't know all your benefits. You're being cheated of your reward.
The event on the cross began a bank of blessings for all who believe. I can't even start describing all the benefits sitting in your account just waiting to be claimed. Everything you need for life is there for you.
And because there's so much ignorance, misinformation and just plain deceit about the crucifixion, you should not assume you know it all already just because you've heard about it from the time you attended Sunday school. "Forget not all your benefits," David said to his soul. You should invest your time in seeking, searching, learning about all your cross-conquered benefits. Because when you know them, your faith will have power.
"For the message of the cross... is the power of God." (1 Cor 1:18)
And then I shall say, "Power is nothing if you don't use it." Even with all the power that knowledge brings you, you will not benefit from it unless you're prepared to test it, to put it to good use.
Let's remember all our benefits and claim them from The CrossBank. Instead of following religious traditions, let's go back to the root of it all and do it the Lord's way - the earth-quaking and rock-splitting way! (Mat 27:51)
